Study From President Mark Chepulis

We all know the story of Jacob and Esau. The impression that we come away with is the Jacob is a scoundrel and Esau is short sighted. Jacob takes advantage of Esau in a moment of weakness and Esau sells his birthright for pot of stew. At the suggestion of Rebekah, Jacob dresses in the garments of Esau and steals his blessing. Scandalous! I propose a different conclusion: insofar as the interactions of these two brothers, Esau is the Christ-figure, that is, He reminds us of what Christ has done for us. The younger brother gets what belongs to the older brother while the older brother suffers loss. Feel free to use this study in your congregations or anywhere else.
